| The IGNITE Light
is designed for people with little or no access to electricity,
many of whom use kerosene for lighting. The light is designed
to be robust and compact, for frequent handling and indoor
and outdoor use. Beginning in the summer of 2004, the
light will be available in a limited roll-out program.

IGNITE Light Functions:
The IGNITE Light charges outdoors during the day and provides
3 to 4 hours of light at night. The primary purpose of the
light is home lighting, including general illumination and
workspace lighting for reading, socializing, housework, and
income-generating work. A secondary purpose is torch lighting,
for portable outdoor use. These images of the light shows
a fully integrated design where the solar panel is fixed to
the housing. The product is also available with a panel tethered
by an electric wire which can be mounted on a rooftop.

LED
Technology:
The light makes use of emerging high power white LED (Light
Emitting Diode) technology. This has proven to be an enabling
technology because of the incredible efficiency, durability,
and design flexibility. LEDs currently match the energy
efficiency of any other light source, and the technology
is advancing faster than any other type of bulb. With
no filaments, glass, or air-tight seals, LEDs are perfect
for use in rugged conditions.

Solar Panel and
Batteries:
The solar panel draws from manufacturing processes developed
to create inexpensive, yet very durable solar "garden"
lights in the US. The rechargeable NiCD battery pack provides
over a year and a half of use before needing replaced. The
light is designed with a specific battery pack supplied by
all dealers; in this way, the dealer will perform all maintenance
on the batteries and will be able to reclaim and recycle used
NiCD batteries.
